Brumby Campers AU Rental Terms for travel between Apr. 01, 2009 and Apr. 15, 2011
Backpacker Sleepervans and Brumby Campers runs a modern fleet of vehicles which is updated regularly and serviced to the highest standards.
All inclusive hire charges:
All hire charges include Australian Goods and Services Tax (GST) and daily insurance and 2% Local State Tax. You have unlimited mileage. Freshly laundered linen, all cooking equipment, crockery and cutlery is supplied. There is a charge for a colour TV, barbecue, picnic set, snow chains, cell phone, child restraint and bike rack. The hirer and other authorised drivers must be 21 years of age or over and produce a valid full drivers licence. Special conditions apply to drivers aged 18 to 20 years. Australia recognises drivers licences issued by your own country, as well as International drivers licenses. If you are a member of an Automobile Association bring your membership card with you and gain additional privileges and information on travel throughout Tasmania.

Maintenance and Repairs:
You are authorised to effect minor repairs up to $100.00. This will be refunded upon presentation of a GST invoice. If major repairs are needed, protect yourself by getting us to authorise it first. Problems encountered with the vehicle or equipment must be reported to Backpacker Sleepervans or Brumby Campers as soon as practicable. This gives Backpacker Sleepervans or Brumby Campers the opportunity to rectify the problem within the rental period. Failure to do so will compromise any claim that may eventuate after the hire is finished. In all cases the responsibility of Backpacker Sleepervans or Brumby Campers is limited to refunding for the time that the vehicle was actually in repair. No alternative accommodation or food items will be paid for during down time. Malfunction of items such as but not limited to Radio/Cassette/CD players, Stove, Cooler box, Water pump, are not considered mechanical breakdowns and downtime will not be paid for these items. Retrospective claims will not be accepted.
Vehicle Security Deposit:
Please note the different excess reduction options vary between vehicles.
Campervans(2 berth Sleepvan, Trail Finder and 2/3 Hi-top Sleepvan)
Standard comprehensive insurance cover is included in the daily rental rate, a standard vehicle security deposit of AU$2,500.00 applies. On collection of the vehicle the Customer agrees to a credit card imprint for the Vehicle Security Deposit and authorises the owner to charge the credit card any amounts due by them to the owner arising out of the Agreement. The vehicle Security Deposit can be reduced and this is determined by which Excess Reduction Options is selected.
Excess Reduction
AU$20 per day (maximum charge of AU$800)
The excess is reduced to *Nil. An imprint of your credit card is held to cover any charges liable under the contract.
*An additional excess of AU$1200 shall apply to single vehicle damage incidents or where details of a third party vehicle are not supplied and no police report is obtained.
Motorhomes(Trail Seeker, Trail Blazer and Trail Explorer) and Bushcamper
Standard comprehensive insurance cover is included in the daily rental rate, a standard vehicle security deposit of AU$5000 applies.
On collection of the vehicle the Customer agrees to pay a Vehicle Security Deposit and authorises the owner to deduct from the Security deposit any amounts due by them to the owner arising out of the Agreement. The vehicle Security Deposit can be reduced and this is determined by which Excess Reduction Options is selected.
We offer the following option to reduce this excess:
Excess Reduction:
Option 1 AU$20 per day (maximum charge of AU$800)
The excess is reduced to AU$2500, which is held as your security deposit. The AU$2500 is taken as an imprint of your credit card when the vehicle collected.
Option 2 AU$35 per day (maximum charge of AU$1400)
The excess is reduced to *Nil. An imprint of your credit card is held to cover any charges liable under the contract.
*An additional excess of AU$1200 shall apply to single vehicle damage incidents or where details of a third party vehicle are not supplied and no police report is obtained.
With All Vehicles Full Cost of Liability Applies if:
- Any water related damage, which includes but is not limited to:
- Any vehicle submersion
- Contact with salt water
- Creek or river crossing
- Driving through low plain flooded areas
- Beach driving.
If the terms of the Rental Agreement are breached the hirer will be responsible for the total cost of any damage. This will also include any damage caused by willful misconduct (e.g. sitting or standing on the bonnet or roof of the vehicle) and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Exclusions to the excess reduction
1. Personal belongings: We recommend the hirer does not leave valuables in the vehicle and that they take out personal insurance.
2. The incorrect use of fuel (fuel being diesel or petrol). The hirer will be responsible for any associated cost.
3. The cost to retrieve or recover a vehicle which has become bogged
4. The cost to replace keys, which have become lost, or retrieval of keys, which have been locked in a vehicle.
5. Overhead and underbody damage to the vehicle.
6. Any damage arising from misjudgment of dimensions
7. Driving on restricted roads.
8. Any costs associated with breakdown or accident on unsealed roads.
9. Damage to mechanical parts or the interior of the vehicle due to misuse or negligence.
Hire period: Minimum is 5 days. Collect from 8 am onwards on your first day of hire and return no later than 5 pm on the last day. Late pickups are available on request. An after hours fee will apply. Days of hire are calculated on the number of actual calendar days you have the Tasmania Camper. Vehicles are restricted to Tasmania. One way hires of duration less than 10 days may incur a one way charge.
Accidents and Breakdowns: The liability of Backpacker Sleepervans or Brumby Campers extends to either replacing your vehicle with a similar one, or refunding your hire charge for any days you lose the total use of the vehicle.
Pets or livestock are not permitted in any Tasmania Campers.
What you need to know - your conditions of hire. Read this carefully.
Prices may be subject to change due to factors beyond the control of Backpacker Sleepervans or Brumby Campers. Any changes in price affecting a client between the time of booking and payment received will be advised immediately. The company takes no responsibility for any detention, delay, loss, damage or injury that a hirer might experience no matter how it is caused or by whom. The companys rental agreement is the sole contract for hiring the vehicle, between the company and the hirer and passenger(s). No refunds are payable on accommodation, Backpacker Sleepervans or Brumby Campers not being available, where a hirer or passenger amends, cancels or seeks to vary agreements after departure. These conditions cannot be varied or altered or waived by any employee, agent or representative of the company or by anyone providing services or facilities. The company cannot be bound by any representative or statement unless it is confirmed in writing by the companys directors or management. Your travel agent will forward deposits and other payments to us on your behalf, but your travel agent is not our agent for the purpose of the receipt of monies. The company reserves the right to provide a comparably high standard vehicle where a booked vehicle becomes unavailable through servicing or reasons beyond their control. Disclaimer: all illustrations and text are representations only and slight variations may occur from time to time. Driving your Campervan in Tasmania. The speed limit on the open road is 110 kph (60 mph). 100 kph is the recommended limit for your Campervan. In built-up areas the limit is 50 kph (30 mph).
Driving fines If you are fined or penalised for breaching any traffic laws, you are liable for the fine and/or associated administration costs.
Cancellations.
The initial deposit paid is non-refundable. In addition to forfeiting your deposit, the following charges also apply:
Once a booking has been confirmed and a deposit paid the booking is considered live and is subject to the cancellation policy.
32 days and over Deposit retained
23 - 32 days - 20% of total reservation cost
13 - 22 days - 40% of total reservation cost
4 - 12 days - 75% of total reservation cost
Under 4 days and No Show -100% of total reservation cost.
No refunds for cancellations made after the travel or travel date has commenced. Major Credit Cards accepted: Mastercard and Visa.
Travel insurance
We strongly recommend that clients ensure they take out the highest level of travel insurance. In many cases this will cover any losses incurred if you are forced to cancel your booking.
Deposit and payments
When you receive your confirmation a deposit of AU$500 is required to secure the booking. The balance of monies owing to Backpacker Sleepervans or Brumby Campers is required 28 days before hire commences. Cancellation fees apply.
Bond
When you collect your vehicle we take an impression of your credit card for the bond of AU$2500 for campers and AU$5000 for motorhomes and Bushcamper. This is the insurance excess for any single accident which may occur during your holiday and for which you are deemed to be at fault. (We do not deduct the Bond from your Bank account at the start of your hire) The impression of your credit card covers your accident-damage bond liability plus any extra costs such as fuel fill-up and emptying of the toilet at the end of hire or any traffic infringements, losses or breakages. A credit card imprint must be on all rental agreements and must be the credit card of the main hirer unless prior arrangements have been made. We do not deduct the bond from the credit card, but merely hold the authority to deduct it in the unfortunate event of an accident.
Fuel
All vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel at the start of hire, and must be returned with a full tank at the end of your hire. Any costs or damage arising from incorrect or contaminated fuel being added to the fuel tank shall be at the hirers expense.

Included in every campervan is a Travel Information Pack - this includes details on camping grounds, maps, Tasmania traffic rules, sightseeing brochures and general information.

FAQs
Can we freedom camp?
Yes, so long as there are no clear signs saying otherwise, then it should be okay, however we do suggest you use commonsense and courtesy. Please remember to take any rubbish for proper disposal later.
Can I use my own Drivers License?
Yes, you can use your standard derivers license or International driver’s license to drive any of our campervans or Motorhomes. The license you chose to use must be in English.
What hire days do I pay for?
You pay for the day your hire commences and every day following this, including the day you return your vehicle, regardless of the time of day.
What happens if my vehicle breaks down or needs minor repairs?
All Tasmania Campers come with Nationwide NRMA roadside service. We also supply a list of nationwide service centres and authorise you to spend up to AU$100.00 in emergency repairs so that you can deal with minor matters speedily or when convenient to you.
How do I get to Tasmania?
Via air or sea! Bass Strait is the 'sea-road' and the route is operated by two incredibly fast ships that offer an overnight service in both directions between Melbourne and Devonport seven days a week, year round, with additional services in peak periods.
If you prefer to travel by air then Qantaslink, Virgin, Jetstar and Regional Express operate frequent services to Tasmania. There are direct flights from Sydney and Melbourne to Launceston and Hobart, from Brisbane to Hobart, from Adelaide to Hobart, and from Melbourne to Devonport, Burnie and King Island.
Where is your depot?
Our depot is located on Kennedy Drive, just off the Tasman Highway to the Airport on the old Cambridge Road (only a few minutes from the airport terminal).
How big is Tasmania?
Tasmania is an island approximately the same size as West Virginia.
When is the best time to visit Tasmania?
Tasmania enjoys four distinctly different seasons so there is a climate to suit your preferences! Generally it is warmer on the coast and cooler inland. During summer (December - February) the average maximum temperature is 21 degrees Celsius (70F) and during winter (June - August) the average maximum temperature is 12 degrees Celsius. Spring and Autumn is also very pleasant with temperatures normally in the mid-teens.
I have heard about the Tasmanian Devil and would really like to see one of these exotic creatures. How can I arrange this?
It isn't always to see the secretive Tasmanian Devil, however specialist wildlife observation tours are available on the island.
How much is petrol in Tasmania?
Petrol stations are located throughout Tasmania and open 7 days a week. You should expect to pay a few cents more per litre compared to other Australian states.
What are the main centres in Tasmania?
Hobart is the capital city, however other main centres include Launceston, Burnie and Devonport.
What is the driving speed limit around Tasmania?
In built-up (residential) areas the speed limit is 50 km/h unless otherwise indicated. The maximum speed on the open roads is normally 100km/h. Watch out - there is speed camera's operating throughout Tasmania.
Do I have to wear a seat belt?
Seat belts must be worn in motor vehicles.
Are there many visitor information centres?
There are plenty of visitor information centres located throughout Tasmania, simply look out for the blue and yellow 'i' to guide you to the local information centre.
Are there many walking tracks and national parks in Tasmania?
The state has more than 2000km's of walking tracks and an impressive 18 national parks.
Are there any Holiday Parks in Tasmania?

Please note that a 1.75% credit card charge will be added when your payment is processed.
A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the supplier's terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date.
If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.

Collect from 8 am onwards on your first day of hire and return no later than 5 pm on the last day. However -late pickups may be available on request. An after hours fee will apply for these if accepted.
Hobart Airport pick up procedure
We offer a complimentary shuttle service from Hobart Airport to our physical depot which is only a 5 min drive away. If you give us your flight details and arrival time ahead of the start of your rental one of our staff will meet you in the arrivals lounge. From here you will be taken to the depot for the processing of any remaining payment and paperwork, shown through your vehicle etc.

You will return your vehicle to the Brumby Depot and be shuttled back to the Airport
Hobart City pick ups
Please be aware that we do not offer any complimentary shuttle service from any Hobart City locations to our depot. You will need to make your own way to or from the depot at your own expense.
Launceston depotLaunceston is a serviced non depot location.Office hours: Mon - Sun: 9 am - 5 pm
Collect from 8 am onwards on your first day of hire and return no later than 5 pm on the last day. Late pickups are available on request. An after hours fee will apply. |
